Data provided by the Michigan Department of Education's Bureau of Assessment and Accountability (BAA)
The 2010 Students Not Tested spreadsheet provides summary information on students who were expected to participate in State standardized assessment, but who did not. This information is broken out by reason, as described in the column definitions below. For purposes of Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) calculations and federal reporting, records are kept for students who did not test. These records also document the reason why the students did not test. Students who were unable to test for certain medical reasons are not counted against participation targets when AYP is calculated. Students who are recent immigrants and take the English Language Proficiency Assessment (ELPA) may be excused from other reading tests. Grades three through eight represent students not tested on the Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) exam (for MEAP, reading and math are given every year, and science is given in grades five and eight). Grade 11 represents students not tested on the Michigan Merit (MME) exam (reading, math and science are all are given as part of MME).
