The Completion Rate for the Bottom 30% Subgroup is required to be reported by federal law. Since the composition of the Bottom 30% subgroup may vary widely by subject, which is not represented in graduation rates, and is based on standardized testing conducted at least one year before a student’s anticipated graduation, the Department does not recommend or endorse using these data in school planning or in evaluating the relative quality of schools.

The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) is periodically administered by the U.S. Department of Education based on assessments administered to samples of students in each state. Federal regulations require the display of state level NAEP data on the Annual Education Report. These data represent the performance of the most recent sample of Michigan students on the NAEP.
